Affiliated with the Church of God in Anderson, Indiana, we are a Protestant congregation of approximately 200 people.
Our goal is to lead the lost to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ by offering worship services, Sunday school, small group bible studies, youth programs, children's programs and music programs.
Our worship services vary in style from hymns and southern gospel to contemporary music. We offer a variety of services ranging from praising and praying to preaching and dramatic plays.
The Church of God firmly believes the Word of God in Acts 2:47, "and God added to the Church daily those who were being saved". Therefore, as persons are saved, they become members of God's great Church. The Church of God recognizes all true Christians as fellow members of God's Church by their own declaration of faith in Jesus Christ as Savior and regardless of denomination.
Each congregation of the Church of God establishes their own set of by-laws to govern the operation of the local church, but the Holy Bible is our only source for doctrine. |

Doyce H. Smith - Senior Pastor
Doyce H. Smith was born in Hot Springs, Arkansas on March 23, 1951, and has been married to Suzanne for 38 years. They have three children: Micah, Matthew, Anna Marie and seven grandchildren.
Pastor Doyce was saved at age 12 while at youth camp. Shortly after that he felt the call into the ministry. Pastor Doyce is an alumnus of Gulf Coast Bible College which is now Mid-America Christian University in Oklahoma, City. It was there he met his wife Suzanne and shortly after his last year in college they moved to Asheboro, North Carolina to help start Chimney Lane Ministries in a barn with 12 other people. As associate pastor there he was worship leader, in charge of a prison ministry, sang in the Last Days Light Band, coached soccer and basketball, taught in Chimney Lane’s Christian Academy and was the daycare director of Chimney Lane Child Development. After twenty-one years of ministry in Asheboro he and his family followed the Holy Spirit’s direction in 1994 and moved to Shreveport, La. where he became associate pastor and worship leader at the Oakmont Church of God. He became the Senior Pastor in 2005.
Pastor Doyce enjoys the universal language of music, fishing, sports and loves spending time with his family.
Pastor Doyce’s passion is for the church to wake up and be the church that God has called it to be. Holy -- without spot, blemish or wrinkle and to reach the lost world! His desire is to see it become the unified body God intended for it to be even though each body part is different. He prays for clarity so that those differences will not divide us but make us one body so the world will know we are His disciples because of the love we have for one another. |
Scott M. Lamb - Associate Pastor - Christian Education
Scott Lamb holds the title of Associate Pastor of Christian Education and Director of Children’s Ministries at Oakmont.
As a child, his parents took him to Goodwill every week (good stuff there!). Goodwill was Scott’s home church where he grew up in Oak Grove, LA (home of ‘taters, ‘maters and state champs). Scott took a “chance” in 2001 and married Rebekah Chance. They were blessed with their son Micah in 2003.
Scott currently lives a double-life involved with drugs (as a local pharmacist that is). His hobbies include anything that his son Micah likes to do and his favorite food is anything with fresh pineapple.
“It is my privilege and honor to be in such a time and place that I can serve God and minister to His people (especially the little ones) here at Oakmont.
And Jesus took a child and put him in the midst of them, and taking him in His arms, He said to them,”Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, and whoever receives me, receives not me but Him who sent me.” (Mark 9:36-37)
Jesus loves kids and so do I. I’m excited about the opportunities I have here to be involved in kids’ lives and teach them about God. It is my goal that each child will experience God in a fun, safe and loving environment each time we meet, and that they’ll leave eager to return for more.” |
